Organization
NOSSTIA is build on three main bodies that evaluate its performance and carry out its activities.
These three bodies are:
- The General Assembly
- The Board of Trustees
- The Executive Office
The General Assembly (GA): The General Assembly composed of all enrolled members. It reconvenes once every two years, and it can be called exceptionally as necessary by a majority of two thirds of the Board of Trustees.
The GA is responsible for:
- Planning the policies of the network and deciding the internal process and its amendments
- Approving the projects achieved during the two years preceding the meeting.
- Approving the budget of the network.
- Electing the Board of Trustees from its Members.
- Looking into any other issues that relate to the network and presented by the board of trustees.
- Approving the General report about the activities of the network.
The Board of Trustees (BoT): The main objective of the BoT is to manage and supervise the execution of its policies and activities, and is composed of eleven members. The BoT practices its responsibilities for two years, and it is elected during the bi-annual meeting of the General Assembly.
The missions of the BoT are the following:
- Proposing the general policy of the network, and the amendments for the internal process.
- Deciding the work plan project of the network, suggested by the executive secretary.
- Proposing the budget for the network and presenting it to the general committee for approval.
- Supervising the execution of network’s policies and work plans.
- Evaluating all of the executed scientific activities.
- Looking into any other issues that relate to the network and presented by the executive secretary.
- Presenting the general report about the work of the network and the organizing missions carried out by the board of trustees for the general committee meeting.
- Accepting membership applications to the network and setting the standards for membership.
- Deciding the establishment of branches for the network in the countries of residency of the members.
- Assigning the executive secretary and removing him/her, as well as deciding the administrative structure for the executive office.
- Allocating the necessary instructions to the executive office to insure good administration of the network activities.
The Executive Office (EO): The Executive Office is based in Damascus and it is responsible for the following:
- Establishing administrative units as needed to manage the network affairs.
- Suggesting work plans for the network.
- Suggesting the network’s budget and managing the spending.
- Following up on the execution of the network’s policies and plans.
- Following up on the execution of the approved scientific activities.
- Studying the research scholarship, fellowship and visits, that are presented by different related institutions, and identifying the Syrian departments that will benefit from them.
- Forming scientific units and work teams to execute the noted activities that are approved in the work plans of the network.
- Promoting the network and its activities through the media.
- Presenting the achievements report periodically to the board of trustees.
- Presenting network related issues to the board of trustees, as well as the issues requested by the board of trustees.
