NOSSTIA emerged after a group of Syrian expatriates specialized in a variety of fields from around the world convened in Damascus the capital in June 2001.
The objective of the conference was to facilitate the forming of a network, through which the Syrian expatriates worldwide can contribute to their motherland with their advanced knowledge and expertise.
The conference attendees came out with a charter for the network, its objectives and policies. Moreover, a board of trustees was elected to oversee the network activities.
The charter envisaged the network- NOSSTIA- to be a non-governmental organization. An NGO consisting of an open structure and communication channels that provides a two-way exchange of public domain scientific and technical information and advanced knowledge to Syria. Since then, NOSSTIA, has been expanding and developing its internal processes.
NOSSTIA has also organized and participated in several specialized conferences and seminars in Syria, and continues, through its office in Damascus and through its active expatriate members, to be engaged in a variety of highly visible projects.
